Coastal Carolina President

As second generation homebuilder with over 30 years of industry experience, Gilford has mastered the art of home building. With a keen sense of changing lifestyles, including growing families, first time buyers and senior lifestyles, he makes sure that each of the Citizens Homes he offers affords the convenience and livability to meet these diverse needs.

Edwards graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Building Construction in 1979. He put himself through college building speculative homes throughout North Carolina and Virginia.  Edwards then joined Mulvaney Homes, which merged with UDC Homes to become one of the largest builders in the US in the early 1980’s. After responsibilities as a Builder for both single and multi-family neighborhoods, he became the youngest Division President in the company’s history at 28 years of age.

In 1987 Edwards started Edwards Builders and Assoc., a custom homebuilding company in Myrtle Beach South Carolina. After 6 successful years, Gilford sold his company to Pinehurst Builders and joined them as General Manager over Development and Construction. In conjunction with his partners, Edwards grew Pinehurst to the largest privately held homebuilding company in South Carolina. Pinehurst Builder  quickly progressed to a diversified builder of single, multi-family and condominium communities.,  It was ultimately sold to Crossman Homes in 1998 and Gilford stayed on as President  and then through Crossman’s acquisition by Beazer Homes in 2002.  Edwards then headed up a very successful division for Beazer in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Currently Gilford has teamed up with his past partner, Ralph Teal and continues a successful career with Plantation Sales on the successful properties of Wild Wing  in Myrtle Beach, and Hilton Head Lakes in Bluffton, SC.

Today, Edwards continues his service to the industry as a Board Member for the Virginia Tech College of Architecture. A past Director for the Horry/Georgetown County Home Builders Associations he loves hunting and fishing and is an avid fan of collegiate football. Gilford live is Myrtle Beach with his wife Cheryl and has a grown daughter and two sons that call the Carolinas home.
